Madie Chun - Outstanding
Volunteer
Madie Chun was surrounded by friends and
appreciative board members at the recent Tools for Life Expo 2000.
There she was presented with a lei and the ALOHA Special Technology
Access Center's Outstanding Volunteer Award for her many years of
dedicated service to the community.
Madie served on the board as a
director and secretary of the ALOHA STAC board for over eight years.
During that time she has provided countless hours demonstrating
assistive technology to the public. Her special interest has always
been ensuring that children with special needs have access to
switches, toys and computers which provide developmental experiences
not available without some creativity and adaption.
Master of velcro and soldering gun,
Madie has taught many parents and professionals to create their own
switches and assistive devices to assist young children in play and
learning. Madie tries to make assistive technology affordable for
every family with very popular "make-it take-it" sessions.
As a soccer mom, Madie has not had
the same amount of time to spend at ALOHA STAC, therefore, retired
in 1999 from active duty. Collaboration with ALOHA STAC still
continues in her work at the Early Intervention Program at the
Department of Health. We salute Madie, as a truly caring and active
individual.
