"The Digital Ride"

Mobile Technology for Communities Project The Digital Ride, a project of the Sea of Dreams Foundation will promote the use of technology, technology training, train and employ persons who experience disabilities, assist rural communities in developing their own digital technology learning centers, and provide computer access to residents of low-income communities through the use of a mobile technology center.

The Digital Ride, decommissioned disability transport vehicles with wheelchair lifts, will involve rural residents of all ages and backgrounds in project-based technology learning experiences, internet exploration, and development of electronic products. Our goal is to reach Hawaii’s Digital Divide community members--those isolated from technology access by distance, disabilities, socio-economic status, age, or ethnicity-- to promote self-determination, education, and community empowerment through project-based technology training, and provision of local access to digital technologies.

Our training model will place persons with disabilities in leadership, mentoring and advisory roles. The Digital Ride vehicles will also serve as disability-needs-assessment clinics and provide persons with disabilities with support and training in the use of assistive technology, and will make technologies such as augmentative communication software available for trial use.
